Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries), or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -guety 03:02, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

License of recordings from pianosociety.com[edit]

Hello, I'm not sure if you are the right person to contact because Raulbot may be used by others, so if you are not the uploader of the files please forward this message. It seems that the files you've uploaded aren't in the public domain. Your quote concerning the license ("Piano music of any composer is accepted as long as it is not copyright restricted.") has nothing to do with the copyright of each performance. http://www.pianosociety.com/index.php?id=164 says that the "copyright pertaining to the recordings on this site belong to respective pianists". The following text makes clear that these files aren't in the public domain. I'm afraid that these files have to be deleted. --Baikonur 14:15, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I looked for that license info, but couldn't find it. You're quite correct, they all need to go. Raul654 19:26, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)
All the copyvios are now deleted. Raul654 23:12, 12 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Sufficient attribution of files from http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/[edit]

Hi Raul, because cc-by-sa requires attribution I wonder if it is sufficient to state the source of the file but not the creator. The page says "The artists who created this music worked hard, and while they don't expect payment in the form of money, they want recognition for their efforts. In other words, give credit where credit is due. If your use does not make these tags easily accessible, please give proper credit elsewhere in your product. It's just common sense. Please respect it.". Therefore I think MIT Concert Choir should be credited on the description page. --Baikonur 15:48, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I considered that. However, there are non-choir recordings in there (remember, I slurped the whole site, and not just the MIT music section). When I transcoded them, I took particular care to use a program which preserves the ID3 tags so the attribution info is still there. On the other hand, keeping track of who-recorded-what on the image page was just not feasable - I would have spent longer doing than everything else combined. Further, I don't think the statement he makes ("if your use... product") refers to us because, in fact, we *do* keep the tags fairly visible - anyone who listens to the music will see the tag. I think that he meant specifically for people who use it in some other form - playing it aloud, or anaylsis, or any of a million other uses where you are not seeing the software decoder. Raul654 16:01, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Hacking the script to spew out the OGG tags and their content in Wiki format shouldn't be too hard, although perhaps a separate bot to grovel through all the commons audio and ensure that the tags are there would be nice... (In fact, it might even be nice if the Wiki software displayed tag contents on audio description pages) --Andrew 03:54, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)
With some more hacking (thanks to Avar and Dysprosia's help), the script now echo's ID3 tag info into the upload description. Raul654 06:30, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)
This URL is now 404. Is there updated attribution information? --Brion VIBBER 07:20, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I hand-updated all the image pages to include 'performed by' information gathered from the OGG ID tag. There were a small number of files (Six - Jsbach bwv996 01.ogg through Jsbach bwv996 06.ogg) that did not include this information to begin with and thus cannot be further attributed. Tadamichi Kuribayashi[edit]

Regarding Tadamichi Kuribayashi.jpg, I'm unable to give you official info about the source. I'm going to see if I can email the author of the website from where the image was downloaded. -- Get_It 16:00, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm going to email the contact thats on this website, and also try to find the image on NARA's webpage (NARA's search engine sucks, so this might take some time). -- Get_It 16:10, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Ibiblio sports a picture that claims to be from the US Marine Corps, so I've gone ahead and uploaded that over the old image and replaced the talk page. Raul654 16:19, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Wired CD tracks[edit]

Links are broken on the songs from the Wired CD. Additionally, the songs are originally mp3:s, they've been converted from mp3->ogg? --Rdnk 18:13, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I removed the Wired CD tracks because they're CC-by-SA-noncommerical -- I just haven't gotten around to deleting them from the master list. Raul654 21:33, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Longwood Gardens[edit]

Thank you for all your excellent photos from Longwood Gardens! Perhaps you could put them in a wikimedia commons collection "Photos from Longwood Gardens", to which we could link from en:Longwood Gardens. --Zantastik 06:44, 2 May 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, right now, I've just uploaded the individual plant pics (e.g., w/ latin name, cropped and centered on the target plant). I have more encompassing shots (fountains, sundials, topairies, etc) that I was going to upload later and add just those to the article. I don't envision linking linking to all 180+ pictures from that article - that would be just excessive. On the other hand, I do have the full thumbaniled view in my picture gallery. Raul654 06:56, 2 May 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]
BTW, if you link the Latin name, it makes it easy to see if there is already a gallery for that species already. At some point I think we should consider making categories for images from particular botanical gardens, to aid in correlating our pics with their holdings. Stan Shebs 15:56, 2 May 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also beware of overwriting, Image:Lobularia maritima1.jpg overwrote a picture of a completely different specimen, and we want both available. Stan Shebs 16:18, 2 May 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Music[edit]

If there's not a really good reason otherwise given, I'm going to delete all of the music files you uploaded on April 8-9. There's no differentiation between copyrighted works and things that are out of copyright; all are labeled as public domain which appears quite negligent. --Brion VIBBER 21:43, 15 May 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Compiler[edit]

Hi Raul. I was just trying to get an image for pt:Compilador (compiler) which would be simple to understand. You are right, but I didn't read the en: article, so I couldn't understand why there was a flow between Lang1 and Target1, idem to 2. Actually, I was based on the spanish version, but credited yours since it was based on yours. However, it doesn't mention the frontend thing, which lead me to fail to understand why there was that double flow. BTW, perhaps you could recat your image to Category:Programming. Anyway, the purpose was to *not* enter at *that* detail, so a simple comparison to Image:Nt-bytecode.png could be possible side-by-side to explain en:Bytecode (actually, pt:Bytecode. This image will probably grow on complexity, however, and might include the front-end issue you just reported, which is a good idea to illustrate. I'll try to complete it when I have the time. Thanks for the reminder! -- Nuno Tavares PT 06:23, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Media of the day[edit]

How does one submit files to do? Zach (Smack Back) 05:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, it's actually quite simple. Like the selected anniversaries on the enlish Wikipedia, the media files are displayed on an infinitely repeating loop. The data is pulled from the two lists shown at Commons:Media of the day - one list has the file names and the other list has file descriptions. To change what file is shown on a partiuclar day, simply edit both lists accordingly. I populated the lists, but I don't expect them to be immutable. Some things (especially Handel's Messiah) are overrepresented (for lack of alternatives) and if there are other files I didn't know about, I'd like to see them put into the rotation. Raul654 05:59, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Raul, if we want to use the "media of the day" in the main pages of other languages (e.g. german) do we have to add descriptions? (like Template:Motd-de/01-1 instead of Template:Motd-en/01-1 ) And will they automatically change to the other description page? btw: it´s a nice feature :) bye --MilesTeg 01:42, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

With some help from Southpark on IRC and Sam916, MOTD is now on the german front page. I tweaked my script I used to generate Commons:Media of the day to include a german descriptions column. Raul654 02:52, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello Raul! Are you sure, that you really meant Marshallia graminifolia and not Marshallia grandiflora? According to Plants USDA, M. graminifolia is missing around Washington DC, whereas M. grandiflora is reported from Maryland - see [1]. Moreover, the images I found from M. grandiflora are more similar to your plant than the images of M. graminifolia. --Franz Xaver 15:16, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've emailed the address the USBG has listed on their site. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon. Raul654 04:59, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, does this mean, the photo is from USBG? "Taken around Washington DC" does not sound like a photo from a botanical garden. This could also explain Image:Engelmannia peristenia.jpg, another species that has no natural occurrrence around Washington DC - see [2]. Regards --Franz Xaver 07:14, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, the pictures I took on that date include (but are not limited to) pictures I took at the USBG. Raul654 07:29, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks --Franz Xaver 08:20, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The professionals aren't quite sure either, but appear to be leaning towards graminifolia (which is what it was labelled as) -- "I can see why there might be a discussion on this...I'll probably have to go back and look at it later when it's blooming...I'm not sure I have enough to go on right now. Grandiflora should have petiolate leaves; graminiflora not...these look to be without petioles. I'll check with the person who collected it and get his opinion." Raul654 15:52, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! So we will have to wait some more time, until the other person has been contacted. Anyway, in USBG both species are possible, as the origin of the plants need not be from nearby. For me, it seems difficult to decide, if there is a petiole or not. This is easier with broad leaves. One leaf - not very well developed - seems to be contracted into a petiole. --Franz Xaver 17:40, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Commons-l subscription[edit]

Hello Raul654,

as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.

If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:12, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Free music[edit]

Hi, I noticed you uploaded a bunch of free music with the source given as http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/. Unfortunately that site doesn't exist anymore! Has it been moved somewhere else? —Angr 06:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If memory serves, the pages are still viewable through the internet archive (so if anyone gets antsy about the copyright, they can go there) but the music itself is more-or-less gone. As to the reasons - I haven't a clue. It's quite unfortunate - it was a very good source. Raul654 16:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Okay. I wasn't antsy about copyright; I was just looking for more free music! —Angr 16:52, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What you are asking is very, very difficult. One lead I got was at Wikimania. I talked to the guy in charge of the Internet Archive, and told him the problem - that there is very little free music and most of what exists are either records made 80+ years ago (and, as a result, of poor quality) or performed by amatuers (again, poor quality). He gave me the contact information for a guy at IA who might be able to help, but I have not had the chance to follow up (I don't have the contact information rihgt now because I'm traveling). License of the music files from "Free Music"[edit]

Hi Raul, since you mentioned that the pages of "Free Music" (http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/) still viewable through the internet archive,
I read the pages and found that the music files from "Free Music" are not really distributed under CC-BY-SA 1.0

According to the page -> http://web.archive.org/web/20010921031852/http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/
The music files are distributed under "EFF OAL 1.0, or any later version"[4], until July, 2004.

"The works herein, even those which do not currently have an ID3 or other tag,
are distributed under the terms of the EFF Open Audio License version 1.0,
or any later version, at your option."

Since July, 2004, they are distributed under CC-BY-SA 2.0[5].

http://web.archive.org/web/20040717080905/http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/

"The audio recordings herein, even those which do not currently have an ID3,
Vorbis, or other tag, are copyrighted by their creators,
and are distributed under the terms of the "Attribution-ShareAlike" Creative Commons License.
You must not modify or delete any fields in the Vorbis comment or id3."

The music files are distributed under CC-BY-NC-SA 2.5[6] after July, 2005, until the website closed.

http://web.archive.org/web/20050715012906/http://hebb.mit.edu/FreeMusic/

"The audio recordings herein, even those which do not currently have an ID3, Vorbis, or other tag,
are copyrighted by their creators, and are distributed
under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License.

You must not modify or delete any fields in the Vorbis comment or id3.

…but note that I'd love to see these recordings used as mood,
ambience, or telephone hold music, since the normal stuff used therefor is dreck.
Please contact me for details and express permission."

So that, they are not distributed under CC-BY-SA 1.0,
but CC-BY-SA 2.0 (because you uploaded them before July, 2005 but after July, 2004 ).

Could you please help us to check it and find out whether it is true or not.
And if it is true, then please help us to correct the license tags of the music files.

Thanks a lot !

Creative commons licenses are irrevocable. If those files were ever licensed under CC-BY-SA (which they were, both directly and indirectly, by virtue of the fact that they were licensed under the EFF OAL 1.0) then they will forever be licensed under that license. Raul654 01:06, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I know that CC licenses are irrevocable. BUT if these files are licensed under "EFF OAL 1.0, or any later version", then,
they should be directly licensed under EFF OAL 1.0[7] and indirectly licensed under CC-BY-SA 2.0,
because of the words "or any later version" and according to the page of the EFF OAL license[8],

"EFF designates the
Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license (which links to the page of CC-BY-SA 2.0)
as version 2.0 of the Open Audio License".
"Works licensed under "OAL, any version" can be used interchangeably with
Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 2.0. "

Thanks for uploading Image:MvRichthofensFokker.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello Raul,
It seems QUCbot made a mistake when parsing nominations. I received the following notice on my userpage, even though I was the one who reviewed your photo, not the one who uploaded it (which was your bot), not even the one who nominated it. I will mention this issue to the QICbot maintainer. Here is your promotion message:

Your image has been reviewed and promoted

Congratulations! Hydrangea macrophylla - Hortensia hydrangea.jpg, which was produced by you, was reviewed and has now been promoted to Quality Image status.

If you would like to nominate another image, please do so at Quality images candidates.

We also invite you to take part in the categorization of recently promoted quality images.

Gershwin copyright[edit]

Hello,

You seemed to have removed the copyright violation tags that I put on Image:Gershwin_Prelude_No_2_Brian_E_Young.ogg last Summer. While the performer has licensed this recording, the copyright holder (ie the publisher or the composer's estate) has not done so. Having had dealing with the Gershwin estate in the past, I think that it would be in the best interests of the project to delete this file as a definite copyright violation, unless it can be proven that the copyright holder has given written permission to WMF to use this work. (Here is the work's listing on ASCAP as "Three preludes [9] I hope that you will understand that I have put back the copyright violation tags on the file. Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Could you check out this user? He has been uploading many pictures and claiming them as his own (such as Image:Image:HBKElbow.jpg, which he couldn't own the right too since the only people in the cage besides the wrestlers and ref was a cameraman. Even IF he was the cameraman, WWE legally would own the pic, not him.) I suspect the other pics he's uploaded don't belong to him either. TJ Spyke 02:12, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello Raul654!

Thank you for providing images to the Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on the Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. Patstuart (talk) 17:34, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Media of the day[edit]

Hi, Raul654. I've uploaded few video files. Do I have to add category media of the day to them? Thank you.--Mbz1 21:53, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No, the media-of-the-day category is only for files that are actually in the media of the day rotation. You can see the rotation at Commons:Media of the day Raul654 18:54, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you. I still do not understand what should I do with my vidio clips in order for them to be considered as Media of the day. Could you please explain it to me, when you have a time? Thank you.--Mbz1 01:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok, here's the deal -- when I set it up, we didn't have enough audio and video files to have a new one every day ad infinitum. So I set it up so that it loops - it has one file for every day of the year, 366 total (leap days are included). If you want to add a file, something has to come out of the rotation. There are some I would prefer to replace. In particular, we have 40-odd files from Handel's Messiah. If you see those except the Hallelujah chorus, feel free to replace them. Hello.

There is a problem with the permission “Can be copied for any purpose provided attribution to SD&M is given”.

It allows copying, but not derivative works or commercial use, which are necessary for the image to be free.

Please try getting a permission with that, or with a specific free license, like GPL+CC-BY-SA or something.

Mentioning {{Personality rights}} may be helpful when getting a permission in case they are worried about that.

Hello Raul654!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects.

There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichill (talk) 13:01, 26 June 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sarah Lee Guthrie, Johnny Irion.jpg.

If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Martin H. (talk) 15:07, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"it can be freely used and modified by anyone" is a license -- I just didn't know what tag fits those particular terms. I've removed the erroneous no-license tag. Occasionally I will upload a pic from OTRS where the terms aren't so clear cut, with the expectation that somebody can find a tag that fits. Raul654 ( ) 18:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
hm, i dont know what to do in this case. I think the tag {{Copyrighted free use}} would fit this conditions. --Martin H. (talk) 20:22, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That tag seems appropriate to me. Raul654 (talk) 22:49, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Copyright Status of various songs[edit]

Raul654: I have noticed that you uploaded and tagged various songs (all apparently from a United States Academic Decathlon Civil War music compilation) as "Released into the Public Domain" by the authors themselves. However, Kim and Reggie Harris' website lists all of their songs as still under copyright, and the archive.org sources provided for the following songs seem to now be inactive due to possible copyright issues. I would appreciate it if you provide further documentation validating the tagging of these .ogg files:

Administrative notice[edit]

Deutsch

Dear Raul654. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you — Mike.lifeguard 17:01, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Rodent photo upload[edit]

You recently uploaded File:Microtus chrotorrhinus 2.jpg from OTRS. The identification was incorrect, and we're discussing at my en: talk page (bottom of that thread) what it actually is. For that, it would be helpful to know where the photo was taken. Could you get that information from the photo author? Thanks, Ucucha (talk) 17:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sweet Beef[edit]

Hi Raul,

Giorgio writing. I was categorizing pictures and I stumbled on the series of photographs made by you and entitled "Sweet Beef". Very nice pictures indeed and very good recipe as well, I guess. Thank you very much for having uploaded them even because there are a lot of people that are using Commons in order to get inspired by others even about cooking. I'm one of them. And, as far as I see, with your pictures you have perfectly illustrated how to cook the dish. I'd like to cook it too. That's why I'm writing. Could you please add to every picture a description that will be help me and all the others to repeat properly the very same steps as yours in order to reprepare the dish? For example in the first one the ingredients (quantities) and for the others what to cook (order) and how to cook (frying, boiling, for how long) the ingredients in order to not spoil them. I'm not skilled in cooking as you evidently are so, just watching the images, it's not enough for me to understand properly the preparation of the recipe. Thank you for your attention and I invite you to upload others photographic-recipes. Perhaps we can create a special category for that and to initiate a new Commons application! A last request: are you the inventor of the recipe? Did you invent others? --Giorgiomonteforti (talk) 22:23, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I've done a few other recipes. I keep food photos on a subpage on Wikipedia here. I was going to add the beef recipe sooner or later, but since you asked for it, I've posted it here. I got that recipe from my fiance, who got it from her mother. Her mother got it from somewhere else. Raul654 (talk) 23:23, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We need your help at the Wikiproject medicine[edit]

Rod of asclepius.png

Hello, Sorry for spaming your talk page, but this is very important. On the behalf of the Wikiproject medicine at the en.wikipedia, I am inviting you to be a part of the discussion going on the project's talk page about Patient images, The discussion started after I obtained a permission to more than 23000 dermatology related images, and about 1500 radiology images. As some editors of the Wikiproject medicine have some concerns regarding the policy of using patient images on wikipedia, and regarding patient consents. Also they believe that common's policy is not so clear regarding the issue. And since you are the experts please join us at this very important discussion -- MaenK.A.Talk 14:23, 20 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

chicken parmigiana picture[edit]

how come it's so greasy? do you make your own sauce? thank you.

I took those pictures the first time I made it. And since it was the first time I made it, I made the mistake of using crushed tomatoes instead of pasta sauce. So it's not greasy - it's watery. I'm *very* surprised you noticed, though. Raul654 (talk) 16:10, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Bad news ;)[edit]

Back in 2006, you selected a lot of Media of the Days. I think you were also a big player in setting it up.

Since MotD was on a yearly cycle, your choices were used for five years, with only a few changing.

However, after it finishes using the test data I copied over from this cycle for May, MotD will be on a new system, similar to PotD (and, as it happens, sharing a page with PotD for the translation work, though there's also its own page)

And so, as of June 1st... your old selections are no longer the default. We have broken free of your influence.

To reinstate your influence, feel free to add any media of firm licensing status to [[Template:Motd/2010-06]}. ;)

Cheers, lad! Adam Cuerden (talk) 04:23, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm aware of the changes you made. It's fine with me, as long as someone takes responsibility for keeping it maintained and translated. (MOTD as I set it up was quite intentionally designed to be low-maintenance).Raul654 (talk) 04:26, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Heh. Mainly joking around a bit - but, aye, it does need more people now. But I've been watching it, and, provided June goes well, I think we'll be fine.
Honestly, the main reason I did the upgrade was it was a little too low maintenance: Not enough people were watching it, so it was being used to sneak copyvio onto the main page. By combining it with PotD, there's a lot more eyes on it. I don't know if that'll be enough, but it can't hurt, and, in a few months, we will hopefully have enough people that we can go to the next level, and have an approval process. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 04:31, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your recipes[edit]

Hi Raul, Giorgio writing. Thinking and thinking about your pictures, I have finished to become a great fan of your recipes. Forget what I wrote you in the past. Now, I have understood your way of illustrating. Yes, true, your pics are all mute and without description, but pictures alone are more than enough to fully understand the recipe, leaving, anyway, the cook to use his own fantasy. How I could be so blind. It's simply brilliant. Thank you very much for such an innovative way to use Commons. We are all waiting for more. Me, for sure. Sincerely your.--Giorgiomonteforti (talk) 15:56, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi, you uploaded several files with a cc-by-sa-3.5 license (Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:CC-BY-SA-3.5). The current version of CC is only 3.0. So technically there is no valid license information on these files. You might want to re-tag them as cc-by-sa-3.0. Thanks --Slomox (talk) 20:20, 29 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Out of process deletions[edit]

Note that only identical or sized down duplicates can be speedily deleted, see Commons:Deletion policy. Different artwork photos generally should never be speedily deleted, such cases usually are not trivial enough and require community review, i.e. regular DR. For example, you have deleted File:The gross clinic thomas eakins.jpeg (I've already restored it), but it was higher resolution, and moreover it was completely different, pre-2009 restoration version! There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Baldwin red devil.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Baldwin red devil.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thanks for uploading File:Matsushiro daihonei00.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Pay attention to copyright
File:Louis Collins.ogg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Mississippi John Hurt died in 1966, which is less than 70 years ago. Also, Per Commons:Hirtle chart#Sound recordings, essentially all sound recordings published 1923–1971 are still copyrighted. For works published during this period, failure to include a copyright notice or to renew the copyright did not cause the copyright to expire. This work is almost certainly a copyright violation. Undelete in 2029 at the earliest.
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution.

Thank you!
